How does this rum taste?
This limited edition Mezan Guyana Rum, distilled at Demerara Distillers Ltd in 2007, features rich aromas of wood, leather, and dried fruits. Aged for 12 years at cask strength (58% ABV), it boasts roasted, chocolatey flavors with hints of dried fruit and subtle leather undertones. While praised for its complex and intense flavor profile, users note the alcohol's prominent presence. Despite needing a bit of rest to mellow, this rum's robustness, complemented by vanilla, prunes, and raisin notes, appeals to seasoned connoisseurs. Wow, ein klasse Demerara. In der Nase überwiegend Schokolade, aber auch Malz und Fass sind zu erkennen. Am Gaumen dann ebenfalls überwiegend Schokolade (dunkle), aber auch Kakao und Holz sind zu erkennen. Alkohol super eingebunden, gefällt.
Premier Guyana, distillerie Diamond Premier nez "rustique", vieux bois Bouche concentré, rugueux et imposant, vieux bois prédominant, vanille, "orangette" avec côté chocolat noir légèrement amer et orange en fond, enrobé par touche de noisette grillée Côté intense et "sombre", comme le montre d'emblée de jeu la couleur Longueur moyenne Intéressant, inhabituel, en impose, mais trop peu d'arômes au nez
Fair warning, you have to rest this rum or the ABV will bite your nose and palate. Once rested it is a pretty good especially considering the price tag. The nose is fruity with vanilla, leather and light smoky wood. I also find a very light metallic kind of smell. The palate is fruity with chocolate, vanilla, leather and lightly roasted wood notes. The finish is very long and woody with dried fruit, vanilla and wet tobacco.
Ein sehr guter Rum mit kräftiger Schlagseite zu Trockenpflaumen und Rosinen - lecker!. Karamelltöne und Vanille harmonieren gut. Ausgeprägte Konsistenz zwischen Geruch und Geschmack. Im Anhang kommen Tannine dazu. Einziger Nachteil: der Alkohol ist sehr präsent - mit ein paar Tropfen Wasser gewinnt der Rum nochmals an Komplexität.
