How does this rum taste?
Most drinkers see it as a basic mixer with pleasant caramel and coffee notes. Critics find it thin, sharp and forgettable neat. Consensus: serviceable in cocktails, weak as a sipper.
If you just need a cheap bottle for mixed drinks, this does the job; if you enjoy sipping neat, the community suggests looking higher up the Barceló range or elsewhere.
Rum enthusiasts looking for depth, anyone wanting a smooth sipping rum, or drinkers sensitive to sharp alcohol notes even at lower ABV.

I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 270,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 50,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.

I bought it to mix with cola and was absolutely convinced. Compared to the alternatives here in Spain, which are also somewhat cheaper, such as Negrita, much better. Hardly alcoholic and pleasantly sweet barrel aromas.
Good for mixing
Recht scharf… kann man trinken. Eher aber was zum mischen
What can you expect from a Chupito shot of rum at a Flamenco competition in Seville? I've got the answer: not much! A vague smell of caramel, coffee, a few spices behind some poorly integrated alcohol and a liquid/watery appearance. In short, it was all about respecting tradition.
