How does this rum taste?
The "Small Batch Rare Rums" from Guyana's Port Mourant distillery, bottled by Rum Nation, offers an intriguing mix of complexity and distinct aromas. Distilled in 1998 using molasses and aged for 18 years in pot stills, it showcases notes of candied and tropical fruits, with a sherry influence that's both pleasing and overwhelming. Its taste blends oily textures with cocoa, black tea, and a hint of smokiness, leading to a somewhat short finish with a subtle acidity. Ideal for those who appreciate darker, unique profiles, though the sherry prominence may overshadow its native notes. Available in a limited release of only 180 bottles, this 57.8% ABV rum offers a notable, yet polarizing tasting experience.

09.02.2024 Nordlichter treffen. Retasting and I still like it a lot so I'll stick to my initial score. ------------------ 19. 01.2019 A nice evening with colleagues from all over Denmark. Notes. Very dark in colour. Nose Intense, wood, roasted, citrus, raisin, anise. Palate Oily, wood, roasted, anise, raisin, light chocolate, light smoke, plum. Finish Long, wood, smoke, citrus, chocolate.
Fine fruit, especially citrus with a subtle sweetness. Beautiful cocoa notes in the mouth, spice, a little mint. Well-integrated alcohol and a herbal finish at the end. Nice Port Mourant profile, although a little something is missing.
Great dark PM. A great mix of yellow fruit and cocoa on the nose. Then more cocoa in the mouth, some dried fruit and just dark overall. Uncomplicated and delicious, makes a great daily sipper
Closed on the nose, benefiting from some time in the air. A tick of something that I perceive as sulphur. Then still closed on the palate. Is that sulphur or is it more dried fruit? With a little time and a few drops of water, it opens up a little more. Not bad, but not a favorite.
