I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 47,000 members. The base in this rum is a blend of 5yo rum from Guyana (DDL) and Barbados (a little unclear if it comes from WIRD or Foursquare, seen both data) aged in the Caribbean. I’ve taste this and I can clearly recognize Demerara at this stage. This base are after arriving to Jerez, Spain, aged for 3 more Solera years in barrels earlier contained Dos Cortados Sherry which is very dry. I think it’s quite good even if it can’t compete with my favorite Sherry finished rum, but it’s in my opinion much better than the 5+5.
Oh dear, how can I describe it. The smell is quite sweet and artificial. The taste is just sweet. It almost tastes like a liqueur from the Christmas market. The finish is so quick and short that I find it difficult to taste anything else.
Really an extreme difference between the 5 3 and the 5 5.The 5 3 is quite characterless, way too weak and just soft-spoken.
