How does this rum taste?
The S.B.S Guyana Rum, crafted at the Diamond (Versailles) distillery and bottled by 1423 World Class Spirits, is a limited release with only 264 bottles. Distilled in 2003 using a Single Wooden Pot Still and aged for 12 years, it boasts a complex nose of vanilla, nutty, and woody tones, accented by oak and tannins. The palate reveals dominant woodiness and roasted flavors, with hints of licorice, coffee, and dried fruit. While the high ABV of 62.8% is notable, it is generally well-integrated. Users describe its character as dry with herbal notes, though some find the balance between sweetness and bitterness to vary slightly, impacting its perceived smoothness. Overall, a distinctive offering capturing the essence of Guyanese rum heritage.

The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
In the nose still relatively sweet, on the palate then dominated by spices and metallic notes. Good, but not completely convincing and not fully balanced in taste in my opinion.
To me, the alcohol seems only suboptimally integrated. Update 24.06.2022:Today, the rum still seems to me a bit too brute on the palate, but for that I taste no annoying finish, certainly not sweet wine, but just, as it should be, graphite (pencil shavings).A rum with dry charm and character.Because I tasted the RX1378 in parallel, I held that on the palate stubbornly for this SBS (keyword "heavy sweetness") . 🥴🙈 One may convict me of the grandiose error! 🙏😉
A maturation in sweet wine barrels is always such a thing... can make a mediocre rum better, but for me it is mostly nix. Nose: spicy, woody, fruity and sweetish. It comes through right away, the Marsala finish. Behind the sweetness, which is already a tad too much for me, many flavors come through. Lovely cherry wood, lightly toasted, Marashino cherry, dried apricot, pipe tobacco with vanilla, strong maple syrup. Palate: much rounder than expected. Strong and spicy, woody and toasty without being unpleasantly bitter. Slightly salty with nutmeg. The finish mellows out the Diamond nicely. Overall I don't think it's bad, nose a bit too sweet, palate pleasantly round. ABV fits very well.
Just finished a nice evening going through some of the samples we got from 1423.
