How does this rum taste?
Most love its intense banana‑tropical funk and unbeatable value, especially in cocktails. Critics find it young, sharp and peppery neat. Consensus: classic Hampden character, best as a powerful mixer you can sip cautiously.
If you’re ready to explore real Jamaican funk on a budget, this gives you classic Hampden aromas and serious proof; just know it’s built more for cocktails than gentle sipping.
Newcomers to rum, anyone sensitive to high ABV or alcohol bite, and drinkers who prefer smooth, sweet, low-funk sippers over dry, estery Jamaicans.

If you should have just one Navy strength rum in your bar, this is the one. The nose is complex with aromas of esters, fruits and spices. At the palate it’s complex and funky with flavors of esters, fruits and spices. The finish is quite long and dry.
Three years ago I celebrated him still as a revelation in May Tai and now he gets only 76 😂. In view of the price but in my eyes a must have for the house bar, especially if you still do not have too many Jamaicans at home.
