How does this rum taste?
Reviewers love Diplomatico Seleccion de Familia for its smooth, approachable character and well-balanced flavors of vanilla, caramel, and raisin. The woodiness and subtle sweetness make it a favorite for sipping neat or chilled, especially for those looking for something less sweet than the Reserva Exclusiva. It's a community-favorite for both beginners and regular sippers who appreciate an easy-drinking, reliable rum with consistent quality.

This rum apparently has a higher proportion of pot still distillate than the two standard bottlings, however, the harmonious profile of this Spanish is masked by the high dosage. Too bad.
The nose is pleasant and suggests a sweetened product alongside caramel, vanilla, wood and tobacco. On the palate, the sweetness is confirmed by honey, brown sugar and raisins and is complemented by the impressions from the nose. Well chosen drinking strength. The finish is sweet, spicy and woody with aromas of caramel, vanilla and some herbs, but slightly watered down. Still worth a recommendation.
This Botucal is too sweet for me, although the 43% is a good fit. I had expected a little more. As I've already tried a few Botucals, I would prefer the Botucal #3 from the series, which has been my favorite so far.
Nothing exceptional, but much better than other Diplomaticos (Réserva in particular) sold in bars or supermarkets. With fewer added sugars, it's sure to go down well as a digestive.
