How does this rum taste?
- Aromatic sugarcane aroma
- Vibrant citrus and vegetal notes
- Distinctive high-proof experience
The Sampan Blanc is a potent Vietnamese rum from Distillerie d’Indochine, distilled from sugarcane juice at a high 65% ABV cask strength. The aroma is dominantly of sugarcane with vegetal, citrus, floral, and lime notes, while the palate reveals sugarcane, citrus, vegetal, with warmth and spice. Users appreciate its complexity when mixed into cocktails, but find it intense when consumed neat, preferring its 54% overproof variant for better balance. Suitable for those adventurous with high-proof rums, the Sampan Blanc offers a vibrant and aromatic experience, though it can feel overwhelming for those unaccustomed to its strength.

To Distillerie d’Indochine
"Compared to the 54% version, this Sampan is no slouch. While the nose seems fairly versatile, with spices, fruit (notably citrus and lime), floral and vegetal notes, the palate is much more biting and warm. Despite a slight roundness, the extra degrees are felt on the palate, leaving a strong impression of spiciness on the finish. A powerful rum, slightly less balanced than its 54% predecessor."
"Le meilleur Samoan! Une vraie réussite "
"Reminiscent of sake, the nose is promising at first. But the taste is extremely perfumed, salty, bitter, iodine/metallic and also a bit meaty and licoricey. Very tiring to drink straight, the 54% is much better... In the daiquiri it is then somewhat more harmonious with notes of white pepper, star fruit, green bell pepper and again salty licorice and mace and iodine. But even in the daiquiri it's not really fun ... What a shame! It's great to have tried, but I would definitely prefer the 54% sampan!"
