How does this rum taste?
Most love the fruity Clarendon profile, elegant wood and discreet Arran finish. Critics mainly miss higher ABV and punch. Consensus: a complex, easygoing Jamaica for relaxed sessions.
If you enjoy Jamaican fruit and a bit of technical character but don’t want cask-strength aggression, this gives you real Clarendon MMW in a gentler, whisky-tinged format.
Lovers of high-ester, high-ABV Jamaican funk or anyone specifically chasing cask-strength intensity and big ‘pep’.

By rum lovers, for rum lovers
I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 25,000 bottlings, 270,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 50,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.

A woody bitterness, but the double aging in Cognac casks typical of Plantation and the second glass, which is quickly refilled, soon get the better of it. Exotic fruits, apple and some light esters (MonyMusk Wedderburn), the influence of the Arran cask is discreet. At just 46.7%, you can take this one out with your friends without looking like a crazy guy who only drinks methylated spirits ;-) We're delighted that Plantation has got its hands on WIRD and its shares in NRJL, and we'll be even happier when we're able to party with friends again!
Planteray advent 2024
Richtig gut! Schöne Komplexität!
From my point of view, Plantation has (once again) lacked the courage to land a sure hit. The initial situation was fantastic a 17 years tropically matured MMW of beautiful balance. I also understand the idea with the finish. It makes the rum more elegant, enhances the continental fruit basket of the nose, the spicy whiskey notes give a nice baked apple with garam masala. But then the dilution spoils almost everything. Even the nose is rather light. The play of fruit and spice works in the mouth as well, but there's a lack of depth here to bring out the flavors. Too bad.
