How does this rum taste?
This limited-release Trinidad HTR from Caroni is a journey through contrasting notes, boasting an industrial edge with metallic, nutty, and synthetic aromas alongside a musty, sweet, and woody palate. Our RumX community shares a range of experiences—from those seeking the classic Caroni depth to others finding a surprisingly neutral profile. Aged 21 years and distilled from molasses, it challenges conventional expectations with its complex evolution upon aeration. With a bold, almost industrial start that mellows into layered nuances of tropical fruits, spices, and a slight medicinal character, this rum invites enthusiasts to explore its unconventional character and decide if its unique profile is their style.

By rum lovers, for rum lovers
I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 47,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
7,6:On the nose, the first impression we get is not very pleasant, as the rum is heavy with metallic, synthetic and chemical touch, gunpowder as we were in some industrial work shop or similar. As it settles down, almond, citrus and tar could be noticed. Well, it looks like aeration is urgently needed, as we get a bit different colours with red fruits, honey, marzipan, some nuts, pear, going towards overripe tropical fruits. Basic medicinal notes stay, bit are more muted now. If well rested, the rum becomes darker with molasses and licorice, roasted with coffee, spicy with ginger and vanilla. We also find meat, peat and tobacco notes... Trinidadian dirty navy rhum as it is... Caroni. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is fruity with citrus and woody with tannins, roasted, medicinal with solvents, copper, burnt sugar, quite spicy. Quickly becomes dry, toasted with nuts, tropical fruits as maracuja, prunes. There is a nice honey touch and some caramel, tea. Going into more whisky notes with meat, peat, musty/ashy touch and tobacco. We cannot miss tar and finally herbal hints... Complex and well balanced, tasty. 8,1:The finish is long, woody, dry with tannins, dried fruits and vanilla, later with overripe tropical fruits, that become candied and honeyed, a bit spicy, musty and tar... Better than existing reviews show...It shines, becomes round, tasty after a nice rest...Trinidadian navy rhum...
That's nothing at all. Perhaps the worst Caroni I've had on the palate. You can't taste anything of Caroni here. A very light, boring representative that doesn't live up to its name at all.
Very weak Caroni, little body, thin, virtually no typical Caroni notes, tastes almost like neutral alcohol.
Hooray, we have a bad Caroni in the Gaussian normal distribution. As a result, there are not only good Caronis in my bubble. Weak-breasted, slight Trinidad notes. Caroni not recognizable. Some herbs at the back. But that could really be everything here.
