8,3:On the nose, it opens with round, fleshy oak and mature cane juice. This typical Martinique rum profile evokes the seriousness and elegance of a spirit already well aged. Pepper and cigar smoke then balance with dried exotic fruits and a touch of iodine. On aeration, it develops freshness, as pure cane juice emerges from its wood and leather case. Fruits like pineapple, citrus deliver a rich, sweet juice, then regain substance to become drier and candied again. 8:On the palate, the attack is soft, the sugarcane is juicy, though lifted by a hint of acidity and some mild spices. The wood tannins melt and stretch, creating a round, pleasant texture all over the palate. Pepper titillates the tongue, then spreads out, soon to be joined by more gourmet spices like cinnamon and citrus fruits like lemon and lime peel.Some hints of licorice are noticed, when the rum is well oxidized. 7,8:The finish is also typical of a Martinique rum, with peppery, dry cane, a little citrus and some wood notes...

A wonderful discovery! A blend of St James 12 and Hors d'âge. Very approachable, fairly consensual but with substance. A bottle to be discovered by amateurs or not.
