Süße Fruchtnoten und Milchschokolade dominieren, in der Nase und im Abgang aber auch etwas erdiges das nicht so richtig dazu passt.

Wir haben vier Mount Gay 2000er Release im Rum-X Community Tasting verkostet. Das Tasting war sehr unterhaltsam, die Rums haben aber nur einen kleinen Teil dazu beigetragen. Insgesamt waren die Rums super ähnlich, die Unterschiede liegen in den Nuancen. Mir persönlich sagt das Profil nicht so zu, da einfach die Frucht fehlt. Der Rum Cask ist der pflanzlichste der Runde Harz und Benzin ansonsten ist der dem Rest aus dem Batch sehr ähnlich. Frucht findet man hier kaum, höchstens Zitronenschale und etwas Aprikose im Hintergrund. Interessanterweise nehme ich die ums heute anderss wahr als im Community Tasting zuvor. Dieser ist besonders unfruchtig und vielleicht der, der mir am wenigsten gut gefällt.

Spannende Nase, hätte da nie auf Barbados getippt. Für mich ist Klebstoff sehr dominant, gepaart mit erdigen Noten und Muskat. Eine fruchtige Säure ist auch da, erinnert an Johannisbeeren, die wird von einer noch nicht reifen Banane begleitet. Im Mund eine Mischung aus Holz und Gewürzen. Lecker, passt für mich aber nicht zur Nase und erinnert insgesamt eher an Whisky als an Rum. Frucht und florale Noten fehlen beinahe vollkommen. Im Abgang kommt aber eine angenehme Tabaknote dazu.

Probiert als 2cl Sample. Vom Geruch her hatte ich direkt nach dem eingießen Assoziationen zu Apfelessig und geräucherten Holz, gefolgt von getrockneten Früchten und Vanille. Geschmacklich für einen kurzen Moment Früchte und leicht alkoholisch und danach ne ordentliche Portion Holz, dadurch ziemlich Bitter, das lässt aber recht schnell auch wieder nach. Jedoch ist das Profil recht eintönig, bleibt aber im Abgang sehr lange bestehen. Ne Flasche für derzeit (07/02/2022) 77€/0,5l würd ich mir nicht holen, das sample war aber interessant.

Out of a small cross tasting: Rum Mercenary is the most lifely with some floral notes while the other three have a more similar profile. Rum Cask is very well balanced an approchable. RumClub feels the most intense with some funky notes. The Duchess is the most elegant out of the bunch and my personal winner.

In der Nase ist er extrem fruchtig und mild! Pfirsich und Aprikose strömen sofort auf! Später etwas Vanille! Insgesamt sehr mild und angenehm! Am Gaumen ist er zunächst pfeffrig, mit Holz und leicht röstig! Der Alkohol ist recht gut eingebunden! Der Abgang ist mittellang und holzig trocken!

Pretty easy going Mount Gay. Subtle flavours. A bit of cask, but more spirit driven. Vanilla. Apple. Somewhat dusty but also pretty fresh. Not bad. not fantastic either. Like to retry.

Nase: Trotz des Alkoholgehalts eine dezente und zurückhaltende Nase. Holz, Vanille und ordentlich Würze mit u.a Anis, erinnert ein wenig an Cognac. Gaumen: Pfeffriger Auftakt, dann sehr würzig mit Anis und ordentlich Holz bzw. Bitterstoffen. Dennoch eine schöne Milde aufgrund des Alters. Abgang: holzig, bitter Fazit: Würziger und lange gereifter Rum, schwach an der Nase, aber in angenehmer Trinkstärke.

sehr stechend und scharf, Alkohol nicht gut eingebunden und absolut überholzt und metallisch. schade! davon hab ich deutlich mehr erwartet.
