To Santiago de Cuba
Side -by-side SdC 11y (old version), 20y and 25y. On the nose the 20y is the winner for me. Most intense nose with dried fruits taking the front seat. 25y is quite a bit more wood forwards and the 11y can’t really hold up to the older brothers. Here are more yellow fruits but also the sensation of a (too) young column rum for me. On the palate, the 25y takes the crown for me. More wood than the 20y, which feels the most watered down of the three and therefore cannot provide the same intensity as on the nose. The 11y comes with more power but overall cannot provide the dried fruits and maturity which make the 20y and 25y enjoyable. At its price point it is a very good choice for Cuban / column still rums imo.
This will be the last time I buy this bottle, I have outgrown it. It is mild and almost without alcohol flavor. A little taste of raisins. Short aftertaste, boring bottle in my taste buds.
