Bacardi Reserva Ocho Rare Gold Rum 2011
Most enjoy its sweet, woody caramel and smooth drinkability for the price; critics find the nose sharp, flavor simple and finish short. Consensus: solid beginner Bacardi and decent value.
Those new to rum or stepping up from standard Bacardi, who like sweet, smooth caramel‑oak flavors and want an affordable sipper that also works in simple drinks or bourbon-style Old Fashioneds.

This is a good gateway rum. Easy sipper (neat) especially if you like bourbon whiskey. Bourbon association from nose to finish. Added sweetness makes it smooth. Leads you nicely onto the oak/barrel notes. Not overly sweet.
Distinct sweetness with yet spicy finish and light woody note.
Aromas of caramel, oak and hints of smoke and sweetness. Flavors of caramel, dried fruit and oak. Nothing jumps out at you but I find it to be an easy sipper that I enjoy. Makes a pretty solid old fashion.
tasted with my companion, we do not agree on the taste for her it would be necessary to add a taste of vanilla at the end of mouth. But we agree on its use: in rum arrangement.
