Have an unopened bottle myself, but was offered a cup on a catamaran tour in St. Vincent recently. Sunset Very Strong Rum is molasses based, fermented for about 36 hours and distilled in a double column still at 95%. It’s bottled at 84.5% free of any additions, just some water. The nose is fruity, spicy and creamy with scents of coconut, cocoa, butter, toffee, vanilla, licorice, mint and grapefruit. At the palate it’s hot, spicy, oily, sweet, salty and nutty with flavors of coconut, toffee, cacao, mint, peanut, grapefruit and pepper. The finish is rather long, dry, spicy and oily with flavors of peppers and chili. If you can handle high ABV you should taste it and it will probably do very well as a mixer if you find to strong to drink neat.
Bomb, still tasty
... I bought a crate of 80 samples from France from one of the big rum promoters. All '70s and '70s. I don't expect anything but patois. But what the hell - you have to try everything. A priceless experience. And a lot more fun with five people. 2025-02-17
Un rhum qui s’achète, se goûte et se subit afin de dire qu’on l’a fait. Porte sur l’alcool à tous les niveaux, tant sur l’odeur que pour le goût. A se demander s’il y a réellement de la cane à sucre dans ce mélange.
