How does this rum taste?
- Classic Jamaican, faithful to itself
- Great, rounded flavor
- Easy going Jamiacan rum
Hampden’s Pure Single Jamaican Rum OWH brings forward classic, punchy notes of ripe banana, tropical fruit, and the familiar ester hit—yet never overwhelming, with a mild woody backbone. Many RumX members highlight the balance: “Easy going Jamiacan rum” (DomM), while others praise its approachable, not-too-sweet profile and mellow spices. For some, it even drifts toward a drier, scotch-like character—"oak is very dominant" (TheTobias). This one’s a regular reference point for folks starting their journey into unadulterated Jamaican spirits, though devoted funk-chasers might wish for more intensity.

"Edit Edit: batch #1 is better than batch #2 Edit: it's also really good as a mixer. Simply a classic. Good price/performance ratio. Works wonderfully to enhance both cocktails and long drinks. For me, it's the best entry-level Hampden and always will be. That's why I had to upgrade it again."
"Toujours aussi agréable. Le premier Jamaicain que j'ai goûté. Et celui qui m'a procuré ma première claque. Jamais eu l'occasion de goûter le batch 1 mais celui-ci est déjà très agréable. Un Younger et un 8 ans pour découvrir le terroir Jamaicain et on est au top !"
"One of my favorite rums, and my reference for a straight 8.0. Good entry to unadulterated rums. After having lots of other samples I came back to this, and found it dryer than I remembered, also I now recognized the wood. I still like it but I detract some points to balance it against others I have tasted. Also, this is one of my first honest rums, guiding me to my journey, so it gets the honor of having the first RumX Picture taken ever. Oliver, you got me, finally!"
"In direct comparison to the predecessor RX11:nose less fruity, reminiscent of Scotch. Also in the taste I am surprised by the similarity to Scotch, I have not noticed so strongly before. It seems to me as if the rum would lose with increasing air contact in the opened bottle at fruity. With freshly opened bottle he has pleased me still a little better."
