How does this rum taste?
Praised for value and approachability, English Harbour’s Oloroso Sherry Finish balances fruity, woody and vanilla aromas with sherry-led, gently sweet and spicy flavors. Reviewers enjoy it neat as an easy sipper, noting the 46% ABV adds presence; some notice a mild bite. While a few miss deeper complexity and detect a youthful edge, it remains a popular, well‑priced choice with strong community confidence.

By rum lovers, for rum lovers
I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 46,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
The tasted one here is from batch 002. Have also a bottle from batch 001, unopened. I tasted it the first time during my vacation in Antigua down at a restaurant in Falmouth Harbour. Thought that the nose was great, but the nose of the port version is even better. But nevertheless this is a great rum, well worth trying, that’s very complex and has a great finish.
Burning afterwards and that burning lingers a bit
The sherry finish is noticeable and fits well. The result is a round, roasty and nutty rum that lacks intensity. Compared to the port finish, I have to classify this rum as somewhat weaker. Nevertheless, a very good value for money rum, like almost everything from English Harbour.
Rums from English Harbour were among my favorites in the beginning. This love has waned somewhat in recent years. But as an easy sipper, the Sherry Cask still works. I still like the woody, spicy and fruity notes, but the bottom line is that I now miss the complexity.
