I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 46,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
First 151! And wow punched me in the face tasting neat. The nose was strong coffee and cocoa, almost like a well done cafe mocha. Some spiciness behind that, and roasted spices at that. Taste was a slap in the face but immediate dark smoke fading into a maple thing. Finish surprisingly short for being such a strong dram, but pleasant. Threw this into Jelani Johnson's Old Fashioned recipe and wow! The Jamaican component in this merges with the teaspoon of S&C to really punch this up. Now have to try the original 151 Demerara River for sure.
There is a toffee aroma to this one. The 151 makes sipping a challenge, and mixed with Coke was just okay. I’m staying neutral with this one until I have a chance to try it in a tiki drink, where I suspect it will shine.
