"Overall a fantastic, rich, powerful and well-balanced Agricole that I tasted at the pre-party to Sweden Rumfest 2023 at Cane Rum Society in Stockholm. The Savanna Distillerie was built between 1948 and 1950 by Emile Hugot in Saint Paul, Reunion. It wasn’t the first distillery in Reunion cause rum has been distilled in the island since the 1870’s from sugarcane grown on the island. In 1992 the distillery was moved the Bois-Rouge sugar factory in Saint Paul where the entire production now takes place, from cultivation and harvesting of the sugar cane to distillation and bottling. Rum from the Savanna distillery has grown quite popular lately and Mr. Fabio Rossi from Rum Nation started a collaboration with them some years ago which has resulted in this bottling among some others. This bottling was distilled in 2005 in their Savalle Column Still whereafter it directly was transferred to steel tanks where it was left for 17 months before moved to cognac casks for eleven years and finally placed for one more year in port casks before bottled in 1401 bottles."
"This is a really nice release and the price tag is pretty good in my mind. Medium intense and fruity with clear cask finish notes. I really like the light smoky notes from nose to finish. The empty glass is wonderful and has light tobacco and mint notes."
"Auf den ersten Blick für ein Portfinish etwas ungewöhnlich und für mich nicht ganz stimmig. Man findet zwar typische Früchte und etwas Schokolade, aber dann viel Rauch, pflanzliche Noten und extrem Menthol. Im Mund süß und etwas runder als an der Nase, dennoch pflanzlich und rauchig. Vermutlich spielt hier das Cognacfinish rein, wie auch immer, diese durchwachsene Lagerung ist nicht ganz mein Fall."
