Abuelo 7 Años
Most enjoy its sweet caramel-woody profile and strong value; critics find it short, a bit flat, and with noticeable alcohol. Overall seen as a solid everyday mixer and starter sipper.
Those new to rum who like sweeter, easygoing drams and want an affordable bottle that works both neat and in simple cocktails like Daiquiris or Cuba Libres.

How does this rum taste?
Sweet, woody value starter rum
If you enjoy smoother, sweet-leaning rums like Havana 7 but want something a bit woodier and smokier for a similar price, this is a sensible, low-risk upgrade bottle.
Drinkers seeking high complexity, long finishes, or fully unsweetened rums; also not ideal for those very sensitive to any alcohol bite.

I really like this Rum in Cocktails. It has a prominent somky/roasted smell and taste that is very typical of Panama Rum. Considering how cheap it is (I paid 18€), it's surprisingly good for sipping, too.
6,8:On the nose, we find a vegetal aspect reminiscent of pipe tobacco, perhaps a bit resinous, roasted.Typical notes of molasses and caramel follow, might be with orange peel. The nose is light and mild. It evolves into a touch of burnt/smoked wood, which develops vanilla notes, followed by a hint of leather, mint after a little rest. 7,2:On the palate it is very silky, even creamy and sweet with bourbon fruity notes, some tropical, charred wood, dry, a bit smoky, better than Havana club 7.We could taste butterscotch melting, caramel, a bit spicy. Some metallic notes crawl in with resting the rum, perhaps also tannins. 7:The finish is thick, honeyed, dry and woody. The caramel is still there, with a hint of licorice and some smoke, as the wood is charred and citrusy or tanninic...
Sweet rum that I'd use in a mixer 😊
Slightly sweet, toffee and caramel. Unfortunately very short and flat. There is also a little smoke. However, the tones come entirely from the wooden casks and the distillate doesn't bring anything in at all
