How does this rum taste?
Old Brigand, produced by Foursquare distillery in Barbados, is a 5-year-old rum distilled from molasses using a pot and column still. With a 43% ABV, it exhibits a nose dominated by vanilla, wood, and nutty notes, complemented by hints of green apple. The palate is fruity and hot with apricot, caramel, and a slight creaminess. User reviews emphasize its crisp, light profile, making it an excellent choice as a mixer, especially in rum and cola combinations. Its affordability and accessibility further enhance its appeal, though some find the alcohol presence a bit strong when sipped neat. Ideal for those seeking a versatile, value-for-money traffic rum perfect for cocktails and casual occasions.

Tasted 10-02-2024 Nosing Cashews, apples ,light oak & cherry Tasting Starts with light oak then builds into a fruity.note that's light ... You can easily see why this is a lighter doorlys but heavenly as a mixer just missing that Barbados sunshine ..
Had a friend who went to Babados recently and brought 1.75L plastic bottle of this home. It's about what you would expect from a Foursquare of this price range. A solid rum primarily made as a mixer but is perfectly fine to drink neat if you wish. It's nothing amazing but it's got a nice nose on it. Quite dark in colour for only 5 years of aging. Taste wise there is a nice sweetness, fruits, spice, vanilla and some wood. The ideal everyday mixing rum.
Surprisingly complex on the nose. Beautifully fruity, slightly tart. Partly goes in the direction of vinegar. Some sweetness from dried fruit and honey, but restrained. There is something Christmassy and spicy, perhaps dried ginger? Pleasantly creamy in the mouth, but still somewhat difficult to grasp and describe more precisely after the first tasting. After the first impression, a delicious and surprisingly complex rum. Good to drink neat, but will probably become boring at some point. But it's certainly also great in drinks. Nice to have tried it, but it's not the end of the world that it's not available in Germany. The alcohol is a little too present for the 43%, which is a little distracting when enjoyed neat, but it's great in drinks.
Picked this up from the duty free in Barbados airport a bar man recommended it on the beach makes a great rum and coke and excellent value for money think I paid about 25 pound for a 1.75ltr bottle
