It was distilled in 1998 from Molasses and then aged for 20 years. The rum has an ABV of 46% and the mark is HTR. This is not your typical Caroni, not in a bad way though and highly recommendable.
Well damn…. First taste of a Caroni rum and it’s utterly, UTTERLY beautiful this sample is On the nose - initially in the glass it’s all rounded off and light with no real discernible notes and then it bites at your nostrils when you get too close! This rum will come to you when ITS ready to! Haha Eventually leads to some soft tropical fruits, namely banana but there’s a spiciness that doesn’t subside - namely freshly cracked black pepper that fires up the nostrils! On the palate - it’s a creamy yet smooth, oily and mouth coating silkiness that simply has not experienced since tasting a 60%+ Foursquare ECS!! It’s just a luscious flavour of peppery spice, caramelized tropical fruits and raisins as well as some oakiness and some tannins to boot! This oh so dreamy!! You would think at 46% ABV it would be thin and uninteresting but it’s simply not - it’s well aged rum done in a great cask that’s been managed by an experienced team who know what they’re doing! This has rocked my world definitively and yet another bottle that’s shot right up to the top of my need list!!
