Flensburg Rum Company Awakening Series 2015

#5853 11.10.2025 Visiting the Whisky Live Hamburg 2025 event. It was the first of its kind and went off pretty well. They still have to learn a lot about running an event like this. People were allowed to bring backpacks and even cabin bags to the event and that is a problem in my mind. This is also a light rum with a spicy touch. The ABV could have been better integrated. Fruity with some medicinal notes.

Zusammen mit DomM beim Sampletausch probiert. Muss zu gestehen dass mich diese Abfüllung obwohl sie außerhalb meiner Komfortzone liegt, doch recht begeistert hat. So etwas in der Richtung kenne ich so gar nicht. Gefällt mir sehr gut.

Ich nehme es schon mal vorweg: für mich ist dieser Rum DIE Überraschung von der ersten Whisky Live Hamburg. Völlig unscheinbar, ohne bekannte Details, nur 66 Flaschen und mit 65€ Messepreis ein PLV-Schnapper. Und Nase und Gaumen liefern ungewöhnlich ab. Nase: doch vielschichtig und anders. Fruchtig-würzig mit feinen Rauchnoten und interessanten Anklängen von Käse und Joghurt. Zunächst wirklich schön fruchtig-säuerlich-süß, Birne, Sauerkirsche, Stachelbeere. Hinzu kommt eine feine Süße von kandierten Früchten. Zusammen mit Anis und anderen Gewürzen erinnert es auch an Lebkuchen und Honigkuchen. Steckt man die Nase tiefer ins Glas kommen die röstigen Tabak-Düfte hinzu und eine angenehme käsige Note, Schmelzkäse oder leichter Blauschimmel. Hinten heraus findet man auch Kräuter und Peperoni und Kardamom. Bin echt angetan. 8,4 Gaumen: Ähnliche Eindrücke auch hier. Würzig-fruchtig und gleich zu Beginn diese etwas schräge, aber nicht unangenehme Käse-Note. Wieder Birne und Kirsche und leicht bittere Grapefruit. Trocken mit Pfeffer und Muskat, angenehm rauchig-röstig. Hinten heraus Kräuter und vegatibel Richtung Peperoni. Am Ende noch mal ordentlich Tabak. 8,2 Welche indonesische Destille kann das sein? Naga? Egal, schönes Einzelfass, gute %, guter Rum.

Pretty funky on the nose with spices and rotted fruits balanced by some sweetness. Way less funky on the palate. Quite pleasant and approachable. Lots of citrus notes in a candy coated sweetness. Some hints of vegetables balance this candy side of the profile.

Mhhh irgendwie so gar nicht mein Profil. Wirkt insgesamt auch unausgewogen und ein bisschen holperig für mich. Sicherlich für den Preis ein ordentlicher Rum aber eine Flasche würde ich mir davon nicht besorgen wollen.

Flensburg Rum Company Awakening Series - Indonesia Der Indonesia 2015 kann mich nicht überzeugen. Die Nase ist noch recht angenehm. Aber am Gaumen alkoholisch, scharfkantig und für meinen Geschmack zu holzig. Kurzer, unspektakulärer Abgang.

17-10-2025 - Rate 7.9 30-11-2025 - Rate 7.9 Had no expectations for this rum. But it surprised me a lot. Nose of herbs, fruit, wood and alcohol. Palate of citrus, pear, wood and tropical fruit. Medium finish dominated by wood and dried fruits. 29-12-2025 - Rate 7.9

I have never tasted rum made in Indonesia and my arrack bottle from Indonesia has totally different nose profile. That's a one way to start this review, I guess. On the nose: I don't know how to exactly describe this. Light, alcoholic. Mixture of fermented/rotten/vinegar notes is the dominant note. Under that these is some sugarcane notes. Taste: Alcoholic, sugarcane notes. Roasted. Salty.Somekind of slightly fermented,acidic olive brine note? Finish: fresh, green, olive brine. Roasted. Sugarcane. Dry. Now, this rum was way different than any rum that i have tasted so far and not in a bad way. Strange notes, but i kinda liked it.

Nice light and soft nose with yellow continental pulp fruits, sweet spices even light creamy notes. The taste is different though, quite biting and spicy with citruses and wood more present.
