Velier DDL Guyana (High Proof Old Demerara Rum) 2004
Most love its gourmand, well‑balanced Demerara profile and surprising drinkability. Critics find it a bit too simple and overpriced. Consensus: a very good, comfy sipper rather than a legendary Velier.
Demerara fans and bourbon/whisky drinkers who enjoy balanced oak, caramel and dried fruits at a moderate 50% ABV and want a relaxed, gourmand old rum rather than something wild or funky.

How does this rum taste?
Ultra-drinkable, comfy old Demerara
If you enjoy classic, oak‑driven Demeraras like El Dorado or older DDL single casks, this feels like a smoother, more gourmand take—great when you want comfort more than fireworks.
Hunters of explosive, high‑ester profiles or people expecting game‑changing Velier complexity for the money; also not ideal for those strictly chasing budget value.

#5711 27.09.2025 Day one of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. A pretty OK DDL actually with a medium heavy profile. Wood is balanced really well with the anise, tobacco and light herbal notes. In the back there is some dried fruit, spices, light cherry and some caramel.
Whisky Live Paris tasting. Impressions and evaluation are based on direct impressions from the tasting glass. Guyana blend from various marques, which provide a pleasing potpourri with their allusions. Good quality, but in my opinion it lacks the final refinement.
Whisky Live Paris 2025 - to be tasted again to confirm the score and notes. A nice Demerara from Velier. For sure a blend, but the stills are undisclosed. Pleasant to drink, woody and rather herbal with a fresh note from aniseed that reduce my score, i'm not a fan of this side but overall it is not overwhelming.
