Velier Hampden Collection Itinéraires <>H 2017

#5710 27.09.2025 Day one of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. This one hit the nail in my mind. Again my favourite mark and this one is pretty good and the price tage is pretty good. Very fruity and lots of esters mixed with some glue and light marzipan. Warm yet well balanced on the palate with faint marzipan and natural sweetness.

A rum tasted at Whisky Live in Paris in 2025. A nose of overripe fruit, glue, varnish, citrus and fresh, stewed fruit. A perfectly balanced nose, despite the esters. The palate doesn't start out too strong, then all the fruit and other aromas rise. Exotic fruits are in full force here. The finish is rather short, with most of the aromas fading away and a few lingering for a long time.

Among the fine discoveries at Whisky Live 2025, this Jamaican rum stands out. The perfectly controlled alcohol gives way to powerful aromas: rich, funky tropical compote, supported by an unexpected hint of red fruit and strawberry. A captivating, gourmet balance.

Tasted together with DomM at a small sample swap. Unfortunately missed ordering one. Thanks to BananaJoe for the slightly larger sample. In contrast to the Hampden from WL Paris and WL Hamburg, I don't think it can quite keep up. But not much is missing.

Wow. This is the most in your face <>H I had so far. Weirdly I have some Savanna HERR associations with strawberry and ice Bonbon notes.

A Hampden that stands out from the crowd, especially from Whisky Live. The nose is a beautiful balance between ripe exotic fruits, oscillating between maracuja marmalade, banana, citrus and pineapple, and the perfectly balanced esters of the mark <>H. The marzipan, spices and smoky oak blend superbly with the medicinal side of the profile, it's really pleasant to smell. A very good first impression. The palate is just as delicious. Plenty of ripe exotic fruit and citrus fruits, generous esters with a hint of glue and solvents, well-dosed roasted vanilla wood and a hint of pastry make for a superb bouquet. The rum is oily, a little dry and funky, perfectly balanced and super-round. The alcohol is absolutely masterful. The finish is of medium length and becomes a concentrate of the aromas described throughout the tasting. The profile is dense, rich, heavy, but elegant throughout. A superb rum, whose brilliance reminds me a little of Habitation Velier's first bottlings from the same distillery.

Sehr fruchtig, aber könnte etwas länger gelagert sein bzw. Vielleicht etwas mehr verdünnt sein.

Franconian Tasting Gang Novemver 2025: Der 2017er <>H musste gegen den 2016er <>H von Habitation Velier antreten (RX9149). Für mich schlägt er diesen auch um Längen. Während die Noten von Klebstoff und Lösungsmittel beim HV schon fast unangenehm sind, halten sie sich bei dem 2017er etwas zurück und lassen ihn seine leckeren Fruchtnoten ausspielen. Eine sehr gelungene Abfüllung.

Im Direktvergleich zum Habitation Velier an der Nase viel wärmer und mit mehr roten Früchten und Marzipan. Entfernt an Savanna erinnernd mit etwas Erdbeere. Am Gaumen kommen die Ester dann doch mehr durch. Unterm Strich gefällt er mir besser als der HV.

Toller, würziger <>H! Für mich trotz tropischer Reifung aber nicht ganz Spitzenklasse.

Tasted in parallel with the HGML Awakening Series. Similarly good in comparison. More creamy yoghurt notes here. More glue. Less wood influence. But fresher and fruitier. Fermented fruit, of course. In the mouth very similar to the nose. Fruit, esters, varnish next to yogurt. Very fresh. Menthol note at the back. Tasty

🥃 Hampden <>H 2017 - 67.9 % Another fine selection. Compared to the C<>H 2021, there are more glue and varnish notes, but I find it a little less interesting - not least because of a shorter finish.
