How does this rum taste?
- Great mix of fruits and Caroni
- Perfectly integrated alcohol
- Extremely long and complex finish
Velierâs 34th Release 100 Proof Heavy Trinidad Rum is classic Caroni with a complex, dirty personality. Rubber, tar and vanilla show up consistently, balanced by wood and tropical fruitâthe tarry edge shooting through both aroma and palate. Multiple RumX members prize the balance: "An exquisite drink. The bouquet is wonderful" (@Tschusikowsky). Several mention the sweetness under the dirt, with hints of caramel, coconut and dark chocolate; others find a long finish with oak and leather, "a great mix of fruits and Caroni" (@Galli33). Some note cask or alcohol integration could be improved, but overall, itâs a âvery well balanced. Dirty notes work very well with dark notes and fruitsâ rum (@DomM).

To Caroni
"Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Very round Caroni, which has not been harmed by the slight reduction to Navy Strength. The rum brings the 96 sweetness in perfection to the expression, in addition sounds rubber, fresh oak and vorallem a present spiciness from coffee, pepper and clove. Was for a long time a still well available Caroni representative from 1996, but has now "caught up" and is also increasing in price - but here it may at least be noted that the quality in the glass is absolutely convincing. An excellent representative of the m.E. anyway outstanding vintage 1996."
"Unfolds its full potential after approx. 45 minutes in the air. After the waiting time, you are rewarded with a fantastic Caroni nose: tar, rubber, caramel and solvents - the HTR profile in its purest form. The palate is incredibly complex and the pleasant sweetness of the 1996 vintage provides the perfect counterpoint to the rather dirty notes. Rightly a classic of tropically aged Caronis! Complex yet balanced and delicious. A real experience!"
"One of the most convincing rums I've ever had in a glass, and for me the second-best Caroni to date (behind The Last, which I remember as being a little thicker on the palate). A little dream. Not just for a Monday evening. đ"
"Definitely a good rum but mouth is quite disapointing with some pepper / chilli notes which are quite disturbing. Alcohol integration could have been better as well for the nose. What a surprise for a diluted version of "Trespassers" bottling, one of my favourite Caroni đ"
