Planteray Hogo Monsta (Extra High Ester Rum) 2025

Un rhum dégusté au Whisky Live à Paris en 2025. Un nez d’esters extrêmes, de la colle, du verni à ongles. En bouche les esters sont bien présents aussi, une bouche ultra sèche mais avec une petite douceur. Des fruits tropicaux trop mûrs mais aussi des fruits rouges. La finale est très courte, mais les arômes qui restent ensuite en bouche sont délicieux une fois les esters évaporés. L’expérience d’un rhum extrême.

#5892 25.10 2025 Tasted at the Whisky & Rom Festival in Copenhagen 2025. This is a lighter release than the previous one. Still very fruity with nice esters and a natural sweetness. The palate is oily, fruity and sweet with a medium long finish.

Finally got my hands on the Hogo Monsta today and put it straight in the glass. A load of esters immediately fills the room. It immediately evokes associations with Jamaica. Except that this is a stade from Barbados...the nose is almost identical to a C<>H, HGML. On the palate, funk, esters, marzipan, young wood and light tannins. This fits exceptionally well. The ABV allows for a slight sipping and I find it perfectly reduced. Only the finish is relatively short, which is somewhat surprising given the high ester content. This costs it a higher rating.

Such a power of esters that apart from nail polish, glue, tropical fruits and sugar syrup, you can hardly taste any other flavors. Alcohol super integrated, but apparently diluted.

Hogo Mosta trifft es gut, wirklich richtig power in der Nase. Schon sehr geil, viel Ester und Frucht. Geschmacklich muss ich sagen war die Probe 2024 deutlich intensiver und Facettenreicher was das Säurespiel und Fruchtigkeit angeht. Daher bin ich ein wenig enttäuscht, aber ist dennoch ein cooler Stoff. Nachverkostung mit 4 Wochen geöffneter Flasche, viel zugänglicher geworden. Super Sipper

Hogo Monsta 2025. 2024 unverdünnt fand ich aber noch deutlich geiler 😆 aber trotzdem eine krasse Erfahrung, insgesamt aber relativ wenig facettenreich und primär fruchtig und esterig. Sämtliche anderen Aromen die ein Vergleichbarer Hampden DOK etc hat fehlen hier.

Ist der erste Antritt noch ganz lecker haut es einen schnell viel Klebstoff in die Nase. Tropische Frucht ist im Hintergrund wahrzunehmen. Geschmacklich Viel Ester und tropische Frucht. Pur gut trinkbar, im Cocktail werde ich sicher Mal einen Barlöffel hinzufügen und probieren welche Wirkung es hat. Unter dem Strich einfach schön das West Indies und Ferrand den Mut hatten es in kleinen Flaschen auf den Markt zu bringen.

Among the attractions of the Planteray stand (a myriad of skittles available), the Hogo Monsta, WIRD's secret sauce, was there to soften the palate (or blow it up, each to his own). I personally tasted it 3 times, and each time I found it enormous, but affordable. It's still a 2000-ester dinguerie, packed with overripe fruit and solvents, but so "soft" on the palate. As a Daiquiri, huge of course, it's not meant to be drunk neat, even if the experience is pleasant.

Ich bin etwas enttäuscht… Ich habe angenommen, dass das der gleiche Stoff wäre der RX19267, welcher uns bei der Planteray RumX-Verkostung präsentiert wurde. Ich war damals Rech begeistert, insbesondere wegen der Fruchtigkeit und der Säure. An dem Hogo Monster vermisse ich beides. Keine Säure, wenig Frucht, dafür pflanzliche Noten und Olive. Nicht uninteressant, aber nicht das was ich erhofft hatte.

Kräftiger, esterbetonter Barbados Rum mit markantem Profil. In der Nase intensive vergorene Frucht, Klebstoff, Banane und eine deutliche Funk Note, wie man sie sonst eher aus Jamaica kennt. Am Gaumen energisch, würzig und fruchtgeladen mit Anklängen von Tropenfrucht, Vanille und einer leicht medizinischen Kante. Die 56.6 % tragen das Aroma gut, dennoch merkt man, dass die Verdünnung minimal Komplexität wegnimmt – dies im Vergleich zur fassstarken Variante, die wir bei einem RX Planteray Tasting probieren konnten und die etwas mehr Ausdruck zeigte. Insgesamt ein spannender, wilder Hogo Monsta.

The nose, as expected, esters with light fruity notes. Very powerful on the palate and immediately full of esters. But then it remains surprisingly one-dimensional and the finish is also surprisingly short.

Great esters, tropical notes. Unfortunately not much more.

💥 For consolation: Hogo Monsta 2025 - 56.6 Fortunately, West Indies Rum Distillery has brought out the heavy cavalry! This Barbadian rum with Jamaican accents is the result of an exceptional two-week fermentation (very long for Barbados) and double pot still distillation - John Dore #88 followed by Old Gregg. The result: a liquid monster with 2029 g/hL esters. On the palate, it's an explosion of ripe tropical fruit, a funky, angry and terribly expressive rum! A real monster in liquid form - just one drop can transform your cocktail. 🧪🔥 And here's a good idea: it's available in 20 cL bottles, so you can discover it without breaking the bank.

Die Esterbombe hält (fast) was sie verspricht. Die Nase ist schon gewaltig, die Fruchtexplosion kommt dann noch inklusive dazu. Bemerkenswert ist aber der ellenlange Abgang und der Nachklang…den hat man noch 1-2 Stunden später am Gaumen.

Puh, also das ist schon die volle Dröhnung Ester, aber irgendwie fehlt mir hier die Raffinesse. Mal eine Erfahrung wert, aber mehr als das Sample brauche ich hier nicht.
