Wow!
I'll eat a broom if this rhum doesn't go through the (rating) roof despite its breathtaking price. It's simply unbelievably good. Of course, as a "farmer's palate", I don't taste as many fine things as crazyforgoodbooze, but I can agree with almost everything in his assessment, especially in terms of density and quality. The only difference is that I mainly smell and taste tea. The best rum I've drunk in a long time. A masterpiece. Proof me wrong.
I opened it after a long day and it literally jumped out at me: what is this! The first impression: wow! Incredibly dark and almost viscous like syrup. Thanks to the rather low ABV, the density and complexity come across immediately! On the nose, prunes, dried dates, red fruits, redcurrants, orange peel, floor wax, butterscotch... really hard to capture everything. On the palate, leather, tobacco, caramel, black tea, cask, bitterness, tannins, earthiness (a bit like Cuban cigars). I am deeply impressed, for me even more so than the Velier Damoiseau 1980 Full Proof! Reference!
#5897 27.10.2025 Enjoying a few samples after work while watching the new TV series "IT: Welcome to Derry" Nose Intense, wood, light roasted, agricole, sugarcane, light floral, light herbs, citrus. Palate Medium intense, warm, wood, light roasted, dry, peppery, grass, light tea, light ginger, light floral, herbs, citrus. Finish Long and warm, wood, herbs, medium spicy, dry, ginger, citrus. Empty glass Light grass, caramel, ginger, light nutts, light mineral. Needs time in the glass to really settle and open up properly. A very nice and wonderful balanced rum.
