How does this rum taste?
RumX members praise this 23‑year Fiji 2001 for its tropical esters and citrus snap, balanced by well‑integrated cask‑strength heat. Expect burnt sugar and woody spice on the nose, then grapefruit, allspice and sweet yellow fruits on the palate before a drier, slightly bitter, wood‑led finish. With 10 early reviews and frequent nods to great value, this limited 244‑bottle release inspires growing confidence.

Edit: chocolate & gooseberry on the nose. A slap or a caress? A nose that somehow reminded me of some Samaroli, old wood, grandma's pepper mill and oregano. On the palate, it's soft and unctuous, followed by an explosion of citrus, grapefruit and blood orange, on a bed of pepper and cooking spices. It sparkles on the tongue, I love it! Don't I need a 3rd bottle...? I'm telling my banker right now.
Great nose green olive, petroleum, burnt sugar, some esters yellow fruits honeydew melon... Alcohol well integrated. On the palate... Very nice mouthfeel alcohol top integrated... nice sweetness delicious yellow fruits... Fruit esters ... less olive (thank god) mmhhh great Fiji . Laaaaaaaaaaag finish 😁
I just dipped my lips in this Fiji when I opened it and thought it would be a very nice rum. Today, I give it more time and every moment of this tasting confirms the initial impression. A very woody nose with lovely stewed fruit and Jamaican-style esters. You can feel that the alcohol will be present, but it's not pungent. On the palate, the alcohol takes a nice bite. Then pungent spices. Then ripe fruit very quickly, very light, very greedy. Before the wood kicks in and dries things out. Darker, bitter finish. The cask reminds us. A superb rum with a superb evolution. Can't wait to see what oxidation brings. Superb selection and hard-to-beat value for money!
First impression: This is a very tasty Fiji. The typical aroma profile is present, but not so dominant, and the usual metallic note is more in the background and is complemented by a nice caramel sweetness. Really a successful bottling. Edit: Not entirely dissimilar to the Velier Hampden LFCH 2011 for my taste.
