Sampan Blanc Overproof

A remarkably rich Vietnamese rum. The nose is intensely floral, grassy and earthy, with tropical fruit, citrus and lychee in abundance. Sugar cane is also perceptible in this bouquet. On the palate, peppery and spicy notes form an ensemble that is both dry and powerful, fresh and delicious, intense and flavorful. The finish is long and intoxicating. A gustatory pleasure and a wonderful discovery of Vietnamese terroir combined with French savoir-faire.

Adorable gummy candy notes. Slightly animalic nose too. Really top quality cane juice rum.

A beautiful unfortunately unaged rum from Vietnam. Would never have thought that tastes so good. The wonderful floral notes fit perfectly in a TiPunch or a daiquiri. Also pure he goes times on a beautiful summer evening or with ice, lime and some sugar.

This Sampan overproof is really not bad. The alcohol could be better integrated, but the profile is interesting. The palate is full and smooth. Cane and sweetness are present.

Wouldn't have thought that rum is produced at Caribbean level in Vietnam. This one is hardly distinguishable from the agricoles from the Caribbean. Citrus fruits, tropical fruits and sugar cane, only here herbs are added on the palate. Really great.

Vegetal nose: fresh cane/citrus/sake Warm attack: peppery/fruity/vegetal Long finish: iodized/spicy I'd like to take this opportunity to compare it to a sample of the Overproof version (54%) that my friend David recently sent me. The markers are obviously very close to those of the 65%. I'll just say that this Overproof version's attack on the palate is less aggressive. In fact, it's surprisingly smooth. There's a watery/diluted feel to the attack on the palate. But the aromas appear right away, with a long, lingering finish. I find this white rather well-balanced, with a preference for the 54% version, which has a more pleasant attack on the palate.

J ai bien aimé,simple et efficace. Il me rappelle un canne rouge Longueteau. Le nez est très flatteur , doux avec la framboise et canne qui prédomine. En bouche c est plus vif avec un léger poivre, mais toujours avec des marqueurs du nez.

Nice, but less funky than the full-proof version!

Sehr rund und mild. Zu den floralen und fruchtigen Noten kommt etwas Pfeffer. Zum mixen sicherlich ideal, pur ist er mir zu ambivalent.

#4563 19.01.2024 Got a set of samples from a former colleague in Sweden and today I'll give them a go. My tastebuds are still hyper sensitive, which can be both good and bad. This one was a huge surprise. I have travelled in these areas and the quality of their alcohol has gone op significantly over the years. Fruity and floral on the nose with a touch of sake which surprised me a bit as I like sake. The palate is fresh and has some anise to it. The finish is medium long and equally fresh with a light medicinal note. The empty glass has some chocolate and faint tea notes.
