How does this rum taste?
Guyana SWR 2001 by The Rum Cask gets frequent praise for its bold nose: lots of roasted, woody notes and a pile of dried and dark fruits—“röstig, würzig, Dörrpflaume auf Karamell und Kaffee” (@Jarek) and “Trockenfrüchte wie Rosine Pflaume und Pfirsich...Karamell und Vanille” (@SaibotZtar) are typical remarks. On the palate, coffee, dark chocolate, plum, and a touch of bitterness pop up repeatedly, kept in line by approachable ABV. While many celebrate its balance and full mouthfeel, others wish for more punch or intensity—"am Gaumen ist es immer noch ein Skeldon, der aber leider von allem etwas zu wenig hat,” notes @Jarek—making this a thoughtful sipper for fans of mature, slightly softer Guyana spirits.

Edit: added a few tasting notes. The low ABV detracts a little from the picture, but makes it all the more delicious and drinkable. I stand by the rating. I think it's very, very tasty 😋 First impression: Tasted it briefly today while sampled and am very impressed. Definitely tastes better than the Velier "Holzbombe" Skeldon from 1978. Detailed evaluation to follow.
Intense on the nose delivering all beloved SWR markers including dried fruits, coffee and burnt sugar. Dark and wood forwards. Very nice. Similar showing in the palate. Nicely balanced SWR notes. Despite the extra maturation, this isn’t to woody in any way. Dark, dried fruits, wood and some sweetness are all nicely balanced and very enjoyable. Looking at the ABV: side-by-side with RX13842 (SBS 54.1%) the TRC performs very well. The nose is more complex and smoother, while the SBS shows some alcohol, which I did not recognize previously. On the palate, the TRC is noticably softer. However, this also brings a better balance and fruit notes are more prominent. All in all I don’t think the lower ABV is a problem tbh. This is just a very nice SWR bottling.
Sehr schöner fruchtiger Auftakt mit kandiert, gerösteten obst. Ein Hauch Schokolade und tee. Samtig weich, leichte schoko süße, Kaffee und getrocknete Früchte. Zum schluss sehr geile bitter noten, dunkle schoko, leichter holzeifluss. Alkohol super eingebunden. Macht sehr viel Spaß, geht runter wieder Öl.
Eine ausgewogene, runde Nase. Holzig, würzig, Karamell und Rosine. Ein Hauch Lösungsmittel. Gute Stärke und wahrscheinlich süffig… Ja, sehr süffig. Geschmacklich geht es ähnlich weiter. Warm und gute Trinkstärke. Gefällt mir hier richtig gut. Ein sehr guter, süffiger SVW. Ein kontinental gelagerter Demerara zum Genießen. 😊😊😊 Danke nach Bonn!
