How does this rum taste?
This Swell de Spirits Hampden blend sent waves through the RumX crowd for its “volle Ladung Funkiness” (Thunderbird) and pronounced ester-laden fruit. Pineapple, ripe tropical banana, and “la grosse claque d’esters” (TheJackDrop) set the tone, carried by spicy wood and a touch of vanilla. Several find the funk well-balanced with creamy sweetness, but mentions of acidity, “un peu trop d’amertume” (BnBrt), and assertive alcohol show it’s not all mellow. Still, the long finish and classic Hampden signature are clear standouts.

I love this blend of fermented tropical fruits, esters and spices. That's exactly my thing, Mika hit the bull's eye with the blend of C<>H (2007 Bar 1802) and the <>H 2013 Eastern Tales. I don't really notice the finish in the Guyana cask, I might have to taste the two rums in the blend again individually. The rum has a great creaminess on the palate and an eternally long finish. Only the alcohol is a little too sharp, but it still scores 90 points for me.
#5821 03.10.2025 Enjoying a few samples after work while listening to some heavy Psy Trance. Nose Medium intense, light wood, fruity, overripe, ester, spice, glue.. Palate Medium intense, light wood, faint smoke, fruity, overripe, ester, cinnamon, glue, light floral, faint sour. Finish Long and warm, fruits, light wood, spice, faint caramel, light pineapple. Empty glass Vanilla, light chocolate, light caramel. A very nice rum at an OK price tag in my mind.
Tasted together with the reduced Franconian Tasting Gang. You can recognize the clear Hampden markers that you might expect. In my opinion, it has a little too much sourness, which can't quite balance out the sweetness.
