The XO Mardi Gras rum hails from the Bayou distillery in the USA, distilled with a column still method and aged for up to 6 years. It is frequently noted for its woody and vanilla aroma, complemented by a harmonious blend of oak and caramelized notes. On the palate, it is praised for its woody, brown sugar, and sweet flavors with hints of honey and smokiness. While some find it overpriced, many enjoy its complexity and easy drinkability. To Bayou
A very nice and fruity rum. A nice everyday and easy to drink rum.
Overall an OK rum, but quite overpriced. Tasted it at the Stockholm Beer & Spirits Fair 2023. This Louisiana rum from Bayou is a molasses rum. The sugarcane has grown in the soils around the Mississippi River Delta. After fermentation it’s distilled in a copper pot still whereafter it’s aged in ex-bourbon barrels and finished in ex-sherry barrels for a total aging of up to 6 years using the Solera method.
Not worth the price (too expensive)Very nice bottle (nice finish)Very greedy
👃 I smell candied fruit, wood, burnt grass and a little vanilla. 👄 Caramel, a little honey and the roundness brought by sherry are added as I drink it, with a short finish. The result is an average 6-year-old rum, far from West Indian standards but probably suited to its domestic market.
