Spirit of the day #3 La Reunion 2017
Most enjoy the buttery toffee, tropical fruit and light olive/brine notes, praising value and uniqueness. Critics find the alcohol harsh and the flavour a bit thin. Consensus: interesting, but imperfect wild youngster.
Curious explorers of Savanna and Réunion profiles who enjoy young, intense cask strength rums with buttery caramel, tropical fruits and a touch of olive/brine, and don’t mind some alcoholic bite.

How does this rum taste?
Wild young Savanna‑style, tasty but hot
If you enjoy youthful Savanna or low‑ester Worthy Park and like testing edgy cask‑strength bottlings, this will interest you—just be ready to give it time in the glass and maybe a splash of water.
Beginners, those sensitive to high ABV, or drinkers wanting super-smooth, deeply aged complexity; the hot alcohol and relative simplicity may feel rough or underwhelming.

There are good foundations, but I find this rum a little unstructured. It would have benefited from longer tropical aging. Its main negative point is the integration of alcohol. The attack on the palate is not obvious. What I liked was the fruitiness, the caramel aspect and the smoky vanilla touches. Given the price of some bottles of Savanna, it's a good buy.
To describe it briefly and concisely, this bottling has a very poorly integrated alcohol. It overpowers pretty much everything on the nose and palate. Even after some time, there is not much more to it. Despite the alcohol, it seems a little watered down.
The nose is ok, it's fruity and pleasant. You can taste there's something but it's overwhelmed by the alcohol. I don't get the reunion vibe. The finish is vegetal. Conclusion: Lack flavours for the proof.
