Habitation Velier Clarendon EMB
A layered and balanced Monymusk, where tropical fruits and wood take center stage, rounded by gentle spice and subtle esters. Curious drinkers looking for a drier Jamaican rum with solid structure should give it a go.
Fruity, woody, balanced—well-integrated alcohol and long finish.

How does this rum taste?
- Well integrated alcohol
- Tropical fruit, especially banana and mango
- Beautifully balanced rum
This Clarendon 2010 EMB by Habitation Velier draws RumX tasters in with a vivid mix of bright tropical fruit (especially banana and mango), assertive wood, and a solid spicy backbone. Classic EMB esters show up, but are more subdued than in funkier Monymusk releases. The finish is long and often dry, with touches of vanilla, caramel, and sometimes coffee or chocolate in the mix. "Alcohol is exceptionally well integrated" (DomM). For some, "the taste reminds me of marshmallows and brown sugar with the smoke in the air when sitting by a campfire" (Christoph), while others note hints of leather and a "not too woody" presence (Galli33). Many find the overall balance and complexity satisfying, especially for its age.

"Very harmonious monymusk! Tobacco, mango, banana, papaya, lychee, roasted nuts and sesame, coffee, dark chocolate and plenty of vanilla, tannins and barrel! Also very subtle notes of tobacco and menthol, very fat! 🇯🇲🤘 Also makes a hammer mai tai!"
"Despite the relatively young age this is a piece of heaven! If you add a few drops of water it releases even more tastes in your mouth previously hidden by the alcohol. An excellent rum that you should give a try. But careful it might want you to go for seconds and thirds 😊"
"A small Monymusk comparison. Velier Monymusk 2007: Difficult to access, with fruit and very spicy. Very simple. Somewhat spicy. Quite tasty, but nothing that demands to be tasted again. Second tasting: -4 points Habitation Monymusk 2010: Woody, spicy, fruity. The alcohol is very well integrated The rum is very well balanced and is fun with every sip! Second tasting: = points"
"Hmm, found it rather ... average. But maybe I'm just too spoiled by the almost consistently outstanding 95 EMBs. Positively striking: the thick, oily streaks in the glass after drinking. In any case, at the time when I could still buy the bottle without much search, with <100 EUR very attractive PLV on the initial market. Will give the rum again a second chance. Update 2023-10-11: Got a noticeably better impression of this rum today. Nice depth, quite amazing for a 9 year old rum. The parallel tasted Clarendon from Cadenhead's (RX16692) with only relaxed 55% vol. can not keep up with this rum despite 3 years longer storage in any respect."
