How does this rum taste?
The Rumclub Private Selection Ed. 49, crafted by Spirit of Rum and distilled at Jamaica's New Yarmouth distillery, is a limited edition, 4-year-old rum. Its high ester content and unique aging in Virgin Oak results in vibrant notes of tropical fruit, ester, and a subtle marzipan sweetness. Enthusiasts appreciate its bold flavors and well-integrated alcohol, presenting a youthful yet surprisingly complex profile. Despite its intense character, this rum is praised for its balance between wood influence and ester-rich vibrancy, making it both a standout sipping rum and a dynamic cocktail ingredient.

I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 47,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
Spicy esters is how I would describe this rum. The Virgin Oak has done an excellent job, which is really worth emphasizing, because storage in a barrel like this can quickly go horribly wrong. In my opinion, however, this was bottled at exactly the right time. Also extremely tasty in May Tai together with the Red Barrel. For me, the positive surprise of the presentation evening of Ed. 49 and 50 of the rum club. I predict that the rum will sell like hot cakes (German saying).
So finally tasted the sample. Yes, there's no denying it's a New Yarmouth. But very young, wild and alcoholic. In retrospect, a little too overrated for me. Very boisterous on its own. Quite nice as a mixer, but if you extrapolate the price to 0.7l, it's more midfield and not a mega bargain
For this price, it's awesome! Ages much older and more mature than the four years. I'm not the biggest Virgin Oak fan, but this was great.
Almost complex for such a young high ester rum. A wonderful taste experience for HD fans.
