8,4:On the nose, all typical HLCF Hampden markers are present with esters, nail polish, overripe banana, pineapple, strawberry, some citrus, then olive and marzipan, roasted, smoky wood with confectionery, a bit spicy. On aeration, yoghurt note arises, crunchy bread, biscuits and pastry, some orange and molasses becomes minty, floral and hay-ish, slightly mineral, as we might notice rubber. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is medicinal with esters, very fruity with pineapple, banana and red fruits, orange, as the wood is roasted, smoky with caramel, crunchy bread, spicy, and pairing with molasses begetting us honeycomb, olive and cereal notes.Resting the rum helps molasses with herbaceous, grassy touch, some dairy tones arise, a little astringency, all harmonious with fruity and woody notes. 8,3:The finish is pretty long, dry, tannic, more medicinal, metallic, otherwise fresh and with notes from palate lingering on...
This bottling is a positive surprise ... in principle it has all the necessary flavors of a Hampden HLCF without overtaxing a beginner ... also for non-beginners a wonderful Hampdensipper, which cuts a fine figure both pure and in a cocktail. In terms of price/performance, an absolute recommendation to buy
My conclusion here would be that it basically has all the markers of an HLCF that it should have, just in a toned-down form. As a rum for newcomers to the Hampen universe, it's definitely suitable. A little too thin for me. Would prefer the Hampden 8 here.
Hampden hat-trick :-) Although he comes across as very diluted, I like him a lot. Typical Hampedn profile, what can I say? Lots of esters, tropical fruits, especially pineapple and banana, and again some nail polish. Delicious.
