La Maison Du Whisky Rum Indonesia Flag Series (Collection Foundations) 2015

Whisky Live Paris 2024 (trade fair evaluation, only overall rating and personal recommendation to buy): This time three exotics in the Flags series, Vietnam, Indonesia and South Africa. I'm not sure yet whether I want a bottle from Indonesia. In any case, quite interesting.

Dégusté au Whisky Live Paris 2024 - notes de dégustations rapides, vous êtes prévenus. Si ma mémoire est bonne, fermenté avec du riz rouge ? en tout cas ca sent le fermenté et pourquoi pas le kombucha. Il y a un mélange unique et intrigant autour du thé, des fruits, et quelque chose comme du café ou du chocolat, diffiile à dire, mais ca a du corps.

Un rhum puissant et original. Le nez se pare de notes fumées et torréfiées (café), de cuir, de boisé toasté et d’épices en tout genre qui apportent de l’intensité. Les fruits tropicaux (ananas) et les fruits secs mettent du temps à venir, mais s’accompagnent de notes sucrées sur la canne ainsi que de beurre, ce qui a pour effet d’adoucir ce profil plutôt abrupt de prime abord. Le contraste continue en bouche avec notamment les fruits (prune, fruits exotiques) et les notes sucrées face aux arômes médicinaux, goudronnés, fumés et pimentés. On retrouve le cuir et un boisé plutôt discret en bouche. Le profil est lourd, empyreumatique et change de ce qu’on a l’habitude de voir en Indonésie, le mélange opère bien. L’alcool aurait toutefois pu être un peu mieux intégré sur ce profil fougueux. La finale ne faiblit pas pour autant mais gagne en fraîcheur avec les herbes aromatiques. Le côté torréfié, épicé et fumé tapisse le palais pendant un bon moment, si bien que même les autres arômes prennent le pas : les fruits deviennent plus secs et le caramel plus chaud. Le profil laisse son empreinte de par son originalité et sa puissance. Un rhum à découvrir pour explorer l’Indonésie sous une autre facette.

Heute mussten sich die drei neuen Abfüllungen der Flag Series unseren Nasen und Gaumen stellen, dies wurde mit DomM zusammen zelebriert. Für mich ist der South Africa von den dreien der Beste. Der aus Vietnam ist eher zurückhaltend, aber als Mixer mit Cola entwickelt er eine schöne Fruchtigkeit. Der Indonesier ist sehr außergewöhnlich, was ihn aber interessant macht. Schön alle probiert zu haben.

#4851 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Faint wood, round, light sugarcane, faint leather, faint smoke, light honey, fruits. Palate Round, light wood, medium sweet, faint smoke, light coffee, banana, spice. Finish Medium long, fresh, round, light wood, light roasted, faint coffee, lightly sweet, medium spicy. Also a big surprise and no arrack in the profile 😊

Definitely an interesting and destinct profile which is very hard for me to pin down. On the nose it is evolving with time. There are some fruits and vegetable notes combined with some sweetness. I also get a fermented note in the beginning, which eveolves to Gorgonzola over time. Definitely an interesting animal. Also a bit odd on the palate as well. Quite sweet with notes of candid oranges but also spices and herbal notes, which I can’t quite pin down… interesting bottling.

Super spezieller Rum und höchstwahrscheinlich ein gereifter Batavia Arrack, was mittlerweile eher selten zu finden ist. Grüne Paprika, saure Sternfrucht, vergorene bitter süße Papaya, Sternanis und kalter Kaffee, sowie ungewöhnlich rauchig und holzig. Trifft obwohl ich Batavia arrack sehr mag, leider nicht wirklich meinen Geschmack. Insgesamt aber recht typisch vom Aromenprofil für einen Batavia Arrack, aber könnte halt deutlich besser ausbalanciert sein.

In der Nase eine deutliche Fehlnote, die mich an Kuhdung erinnert, nicht angenehm. Am Gaumen zum Glück nicht ausgeprägt, das Profil ist in Summe stimmig, aber auch nicht sehr individuell. Der Schwächste der aktuellen Flag-Series.
