Habitation Velier Hampden Ex-Sherry Cask LROK 2019
Most enjoy the rich fruit, strong sherry and long finish, but many feel the sherry overwhelms the Hampden funk and tastes unbalanced. Overall seen as a solid yet divisive experiment.
Sherry-cask and Hampden fans who like cask-strength, very sweet, fruit-driven rums where sour cherry, tropical fruit and wood spice take center stage over classic high-ester funk.

How does this rum taste?
Big sherry, tamed Hampden funk
If you like Hampden Pagos or other loud sherry finishes and want something even more cask-driven, this leans hard into sweet, woody sherry with just enough Hampden character underneath.
Beginners, those sensitive to 60% ABV, or drinkers wanting clean, classic Hampden funk without heavy sherry sweetness, astringency or slightly sulfuric, sour notes.

By rum lovers, for rum lovers
I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 25,000 bottlings, 270,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 50,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.

In my opinion, a successful bottling, which, however, lags behind the Pagos bottlings. Very great fruity, fresh nose, whereby the ester and glue notes are rather hidden. Sour cream, cinnamon and fine licorice notes join in on the palate. The finish is medium long. The alcohol is well integrated.
Oweia, what kind of bottling is this? I had two HLCFs from Hampden from 2010 in my glass before, but it can't have been because of them that this one goes down like this. It had something really angular in the nose and mouth, which goes far beyond the musty overtones. I'll give it another chance soon, but right now it's not working at all.
Das es ist ein Hampden nach meinen Geschmack. Reichlich tropische Früchte in der Nase, sowie am Gaumen. Ananas und Banane lassen sich hier erkennen. Leckerer Hampden, auf jeden Fall würdig mal sagen:)
#4860 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Fresh, medium intense, fruity, light chocolate, light herbal, light citrus, light nutts, light roasted wood. Palate Warm, medium intense, fresh, fruits, light citrus, faint floral, light nutts, faint chocolate, light herbal, cinnamon. Finish Long and warm, fruits, light wood, dried fruit, light chocolate, faint mint, faint citrus. This is a nice rum and I need to retaste it because I think it needs to rest longer than I could at the event.
