How does this rum taste?
- Grossartige Süsse gepaart mit schwerer Frucht
- Honigsüße strömt auf einen ein
- Deutlich wuchtiger, als die Nase vermuten lässt
Nine Leaves Ex-American Oak 2014 leans into honey, rich sugarcane, and tropical fruit, with a layer of vegetal freshness that splits RumX fans between intrigue and puzzlement. Many mention a “massive honey sweetness” and “fruity notes in a complex melange” (DomM), with others picking out “something with caramel and fruit gummy from Bonn” (Dr.Django). The wood influence is clear without dominating, and vegetal touches—Butternut squash, lime, and even cashew—spark debate over its odd but memorable profile. For those seeking classic but quirky Japanese rum, it’s a ride; as one puts it, “Grossartige Süsse gepaart mit schwerer Frucht” (Jakob).

"#4838 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Fresh, round, sugarcane, faint salty, faint olive, spice, faint coconut, faint mint. Palate Warm, round, fruits, light sugarcane, faint citrus, light vegetal, medium spicy, faint orange, Finish Medium long, fresh, warm, fruity, light sugarcane, light spicy, light citrus, light floral. These bottles Mark the end of Nine Leaves in Japan and it's pretty sad because he really knew how to make and mature rum. If you get the chance you should try out the five releases which are pretty similar and still pretty different."
"A rum tasted at Whisky Live in Paris in 2024. The nose is full and deep, with overripe fruit and dried fruit, but also freshness and vegetal notes. On the palate, the entry is gentle, then the alcohol comes to the fore, followed by fruit and spiciness. A fine evolution here. The finish is long, with a hint of acidity. Undoubtedly the best Nine Leaves I've ever had in my glass, and there's no false taste here."
"Nine Leaves Series No. 4 I find the nose quite restrained. Nevertheless, I perceive delicate fruit and honey aromas. The palate is more present. A pronounced honey sweetness flows onto the palate, which then leads into a sweetish fruitiness. This is followed by some spice and a slight roastiness. The finish is more on the herbal, spicy side. I like this bottling"
"For me, this is by far the best of the range - there are actually aspects here that I like - for example, the cadmium note on the palate and the balance of medicinal and sweetness. Regardless of the price, I wouldn't need a bottle."
