#4866 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Light, fresh, fruity, light vegetal, spice, sugarcane, light wood, faint smoke. Palate Light, light wood, round, fruits, light orange, light sugarcane, spice, medium dry. Finish Short to medium, light wood, light dried fruit, light orange, light vegetal, medium dry. This is a very young J.M which is also apparent from the profile. Not a bad release, but when you're used to the much older versions this one will feel flat.
A solid JM that embodies the spirit of its distillery. On the nose, a lovely duet between spices on one side (nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, chili, pepper) and fruit on the other (orange zest, exotic yellow fruit), featuring more vegetal notes on gourmet, sugar-rich cane. The woodiness does its job, offering something dry, intense and varied. On the palate, there's a fruity profile with orange and tropical fruit, but it's the spices that take advantage of the profile and extend throughout the palate and tasting. We find winter spices with cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper, vanilla, toasty woodiness and hints of sugarcane. Overall, this is a dry, powerful rum with a nice roundness. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is direct but a little less marked than expected. Overall, we find the same archetypal combination of citrus (orange), dried fruit, spices, wood and agricultural touches that dry out the palate. A hint of chocolate makes its appearance for a very pleasant gourmet touch. Overall, this is a good agricultural rum with solid attributes, but a few more years of experience could have given it more wisdom.
