How does this rum taste?
Uitvlugt 1990 Distilia The Last Cask Artist (Yu Chuan) stirs the RumX crowd with dense layers of dried fruit (especially prunes and raisins), a leathery-tobacco backbone, and a firm, almost smoky wood influence. The smoke splits opinion and veers into whisky territory for some—"verdammt Whisky-lastig" (Werni)—while others praise its complexity: "boisé, mais pas trop... jeu plutôt bien équilibré" (alex). Notes of molasses, dark berries, and subtle herbals round out a profile with plenty of aged character.

The third Uitvlugt for today... and unfortunately a bit disappointing... as already reported several times, it contains a heavy smoky slightly tobacco-like note, which I don't like. Otherwise, there are also pleasant dry fruit flavors of prune, spice and wood.
8,7:On the nose, the first impression we get is very pleasant with charred wood notes and dried fruits, as there are raisins, figs, apricots, dark berries, blackberry and smoky wood with nuts, burnt sugar, leather. Molasses brings in some tobacco. On aeration, vanilla, prunes, citrus and bacon are evident, as some flowery notes with an elderflower.Nicely balanced... 8,5:On the palate, the attack is spicy and whisky like with dark, charred, smoky wood notes, a bit resinous, so a bit bitter. The fruits are dried with raisins, prunes, apricots and dates, as the molasses brings in black tea, dark licorice, tobacco and is a bit herbaceous. After resting, balance is better, as we move towards more burnt bacon, meat, salty caramel, mocha and a whiff of mint. 8,5:The finish is long with dry, spicy, smoky charred wood, quite dark and earthy and a bit bitter, as dried fruits nicely balance our tasting..
Old PM with a nice nose of lots of dried fruit, plum, wood and tobacco. On the palate - as already described in another review - a somewhat disturbing, smoky note. I don't know whether it reminds me of whisky because I read it or because it really tastes like it. But it is indeed a bit annoying if you don't like whisky. In any case, a little standing time is very good for it. Nevertheless, all in all still very tasty for me.
Well, for the price that is called for a bottle here, it doesn't really convince me. I would rate it as a solid bottling, but nothing more. You could get better for the money. The smokiness ruins a lot here.
