S.B.S Ecuador
Vanilla and caramel meet herbal, woody spice—a unique, spicy sipper for adventurous palates.
S.B.S Ecuador opens with inviting vanilla and baking spice aromas, underpinned by notes of young wood and subtle herbal sweetness. RumX members describe a palate of "oily, fresh, naturally sweet, light caramel" (Kevin Sorensen), with mentions of menthol, citrus zest, and a delicate smokiness for added intrigue. Reviewers enjoyed the "interesting technical" flavors and approachable dry style (Martin Ekrt, lukasdrinkinghabits), making it especially appealing for fans of lighter, Spanish-style rums. While some found the alcohol a bit too pronounced and noted a lack of deep complexity, our community agrees this is a standout for those craving something unique—especially in cocktails or neat for an exploration of Ecuador’s rum landscape.

A rum tasted at the GRF in 2024, S.B.S. Masterclass. Dry herbs on the nose, yellow fruit compote and a light pepperiness. On the palate, dry herbs, young wood and the usual caramel and vanilla. The finish is moderately long, though soon all that remains is the fresh wood. A rum marked by new wood (2 years after 6 years of ex-bourbon).
Has virtually no DNA of its own. Herbs and lots of virgin oak, lots of ex-bourbon barrel and alcohol not so well integrated. Another example for me that Ecuador unfortunately has hardly any high-quality rum to show...
Fair evaluation. Tasted as part of the S.B.S. tasting. Interesting rum from Ecuador. A slight menthol note stands out for me on the nose. Then fruity, slightly sweet, spices, caramel and wood on the palate.
