How does this rum taste?
The Many Faces Of Rum," from the Hampden distillery in Jamaica, is a limited-edition release by The Whisky Jury. Distilled in 2000 and aged for 23 years, this rum boasts a tropical fruit-forward aroma and taste, complemented by classic ester notes and hints of vanilla and barrel. While its complexity appeals to some, the extended aging has subdued its vibrant character, making it a milder choice for Hampden enthusiasts. With only 173 bottles produced, this 52% ABV rum is a rare find for collectors and connoisseurs alike, yet some users find it lacks the boldness expected from similar offerings.

This is a beautifully complex Hampden with plenty of funk and steam. Classic on the nose and a perfect interplay of spice, sweetness, tropical fruit, some wood and esters on the palate. The finish continues this aromatic journey for a long time! Top
All in all, what you'd expect from a Hampden, pretty unexciting. The price that is being asked for it is not worth me getting a whole bottle of it. Nice to have tried, but nothing memorable. In my opinion, it's simply been in the cask too long and has lost a lot of its character as a result, and it seems a little too thin without that certain oomph.
In direct comparison with the SoR Ed. 21 (Rx11106), more spice and wood on the nose and less esters, licorice and fermentation. The SoR reminds me strongly of the HD LROK The Younger 2016, whereas the TWJ is slightly reminiscent of the 1992 HLCFs on the palate. In a direct comparison, the TWJ is just ahead for me.
This Hampden is a disappointment for me. Yes, the typical aromas are recognizable, but somehow it is totally flat and boring. I had expected much more. Especially for the price. There are quite a few bottlings from the distillery that are much better and also much more attractive in terms of price.
