The Flensburg Rum Company Sea Shepherd (Beluga) is a limited release from Ecuador's Manabi distillery, bottled by Oldman Spirits GmbH. Distilled in 2015 from sugar cane juice using a pot still and aged for 8 years, this cask strength rum boasts an ABV of 47.2%. Users note a fruity nose with caramel, green apple, and banana, transitioning to a thinner mouthfeel with spicy and woody undertones. Although some find the rum thin and somewhat harsh on the palate, the unique flavor profile highlights its fruity and spicy richness, making it a distinctive rum.

Won a sample set of the 4 new Sea Shepherd from Kirsch. THANK YOU 🙏. Here is the tropically matured sugar cane juice rum from Ecuador... Nose: despite only 47%, quite intense and even a little cutting at the beginning. Fruity, spicy and woody. Sweet, mealy banana with sour-sweet passion fruit and gooseberry with redcurrant. There is also sour cherry and green apple. Behind this, it is herbaceous and spicy with a little red pepper, vanilla and a hint of mint. Surprisingly beautiful and interesting nose. 8.0 Palate: dry, somewhat thin and quite spicy-woody-tart. Initially salty with lime zest and some caraway, slightly bitter. This is followed by subtle, slightly sweet fruit, perhaps green apple. Becomes grassy at the back with herbs and citrusy notes of kumquat. Weaker and more brittle than the nose, appears alcoholic at first despite the low %. 7,6 Quite unusual for Ecuador and therefore interesting.
8,1:On the nose, we find an estery rum, pleasantly fruity with an unripe banana, green apple, spicy with red pepper, vanilla and roasted wood with caramel, minty cane. On aeration, a rubber is our companion, herbaceous notes, from fruits apricots, lime peel, sour cherry, as bit astringent. 8:On the palate, the attack is bourbony with yellow fruits, green apple, roasted wood with burnt sugar, spicy vanilla, salty and peppery. The cane brings honey and diverse vegetal notes like mint, grass, chamomile, thyme and herbaceous, floral notes. There is a pleasant, unripe banana, later some lime peel, underneath some rubber still follows us. 8,2:The finish is long, tasty, dry with spicy, roasted wood notes like vanilla, pastry, coffee, fruits like banana, green apple, kumquat and yellow fruits, herbaceous and floral, grassy notes...
Bottle Market Bremen October 2024. I think it has a strong nose, smells to me like a freshly cleaned toilet, strong. On the palate it has a certain sweetness (chocolate) and spiciness. The worst so far today.
Some really nice rubber notes with some green apple and Spanish sweetness. Some banana esters and sub par alcohol integration. I can see me drinking this but am happy I onlY bought a sample. Worth a try though
