How does this rum taste?
The Madeira (Single Cask Jamaican Rum) DOK, crafted at Jamaica's Hampden distillery and bottled by The Colours of Rum, is noted for its potent ester and tropical fruit aromas. Distilled in 2023 and aged for 9 months, this rum has a high ABV of 63.4%. With only 88 bottles, it offers a unique blend of profiles, including red wine and fruitcake with an underlying medicinal bitterness. Users are divided; some perceive a complex balance after aeration, while others cite poor alcohol integration and missed expectations of Madeira influence. The limited edition DOK mark elicits strong ester notes and a spectrum of fruity flavors, making it a contentious yet intriguing choice for rum enthusiasts.

First of all, I apologize for splitting this bottle. Anyone who was upset about the Pagos or even the HLCF that it had too tight a finish will be able to experience again here how you can top the dead finish. How you can manage to break a Hampden like that, madness. Place six. Unfortunately, I can't see anything positive. Sorry
8,4:On the nose, the first attack is with glue, esters and lots of dried fruits. When we overcome this, we get some roasted notes with some pastry, nuts, nice gingerbread and fruitcake with red fruits marmelade, overripe exotic fruit, the rum becomes a bit spicy with cinnamon and herbal. Aeration brings some marzipan, camphor, teranino, griotte chocolate. If well rested, punchy notes are here and now more overripe fermented tropical fruits with little funkiness.Oxydation and rest make this rum balanced and pleasant. 8,5:On the palate, the first profile is a bit roasted and medicinal, as it is gluey. When it settles down, there is a fruit cake with red fruit marmelade, some overripe exotic fruits and chocolate...Metallic notes crawl in, the rum becoming more spicy with sweet spices and yummy with nice caramelized pastry. We find some sour cherry, plum wine, teranino and iced chocolate cubes. We cannot overcome dryness and strong molasses with minty touch. When well rested, nice fermented, overripe exotic fruits arise. The rum is now a bit dirty, smoky, more funky and rich with even some umami notes, nicely balanced and tasty. 8,4:The finish is long, dry but light and fresh with dried and red fruits, as berries and in the end more roasted, smoky and toasted with some fruit cake and overripe tropical fruits. The Madeira wine is strongly present, when this rum is well rested, it becomes balanced and very tasty...
Spíš mi to evokuje NYE.
