How does this rum taste?
The Dominican Rum, bottled by Thompson Bros., hails from the Dominican Republic and was distilled from molasses using a column still in 2013. It matured for ten years, reaching a cask strength of 54.8% ABV. This limited edition, with only 412 bottles, presents a nose of dates, chocolate, and nougat, leading to a spicy palate with chamomile and roasted notes. Users appreciate its rich, complex flavors and well-integrated Madeira finish, though some find the alcohol a bit intense. Suitable for sipping or cocktails, this rum offers a balanced experience with a warm, lengthy finish.

#4825 26.08.2024 A nice evening with both old and new faces in Odense. Nose Fresh, round, light wood, dried fruit, light chocolate, clove, faint caramel, strawberries, faint grass. Palate Round, light oily, light wood, faint roasted, berries, light nutts, light citrus, spice. Finish Medium to long, fresh, round, light wood, berries, faint caramel, light citrus, light nutts.
I'm not a fan of wine barrels or barrels of fortified wine. But I think in the case of a rather "neutral" Spanish rum, it may contribute something. In addition to dried fruit and cocoa notes, I also smell something vinous - and that doesn't mix with anything here. Not earth-shattering but drinkable. Makes a good Old Fasioned with a few dashes of Choclate Bitters and a juicy orange zest. I'll try that with the rest of the sample.
Nice DomRep, Madeira finish is very well integrated. A dangerous easy sipper...
The Madeira cask suits this rum from the Dominican Republic without overwhelming the basic profile. A pleasant, not exaggerated sweetness carries the chocolaty flavor package mixed with almonds and raisins. Nice mouthfeel, little alcohol is noticeable. Minimally metallic in the aftertaste, but this hardly bothers. Perhaps a little one-dimensional, but delicious.
