How does this rum taste?
Iconic, creamy coconut Demerara
If you enjoy El Dorado Rare Collection or top Diamond/Skeldon bottlings, this delivers a similar deep Demerara profile with extra coconut creaminess and tropical-age intensity.
Beginners, those sensitive to high ABV, or anyone unwilling to pay premium unicorn prices for rare Velier Demeraras.
Stunning nose. Mouth slightly less complex but still so easy and pleasant. Serious stuff!

By rum lovers, for rum lovers
I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 25,000 bottlings, 270,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 50,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.

Nice Guyana column profile on the nose. Coconut, milk chocolate and some vanilla with notes of dried fruits. Starts off with an additional note of wet cardboard and needs some time to breath to open up and lose its alcoholic note. The patience is well rewarded, however. Personally, I prefer the 96 Diamonds but make no mistake, this is an excellent representation of what you (should) love about DDL rums. On the palate also a rich and deep Demerara profile with dried fruits, coffee and dark caramel notes. Some sweetness works well with the fruity notes. It’s not the most complex out of the top Dermeraras but to me a excellent representation of the profile‘s highlights.
... The Old Velier Demerara rum is the best thing you can taste in the rum world. The rums were aged in the tropics for several years by mistake and nobody refilled the barrel. The Andel tax was 90% or more, which is why the taste is especially full and intense. Even though it is an extra expensive product, I recommend to taste a rum from this series at least once in your life.
Auto-translatedPretty close to its big brother from 1997 vintage. Sweet, round, another strong Uitvlugt from Velier !
Well, now it's time to taste one of the Unicorns you hear so much about, but rarely see in your glass... Big demerara profile of nuts, vanilla, coconut, cooked sugar, it's woody but pleasant and greedy. On the palate, it follows the same pattern, which is very good. So verdict: very, very good, but not necessarily better than other, less hard-to-find dark demerara. So very happy to be able to share this bottle for "only" 600€ 😅, tomorrow if I come across it again at the same price, I'd rather take 1 diamond CBH + 1 Skeldon + 1 Albion from El Dorado, all 3 are at the same level, or so equivalent...
