How does this rum taste?
- Thick and oily
- Very round, continuous rum
- Schöne Würze
This Guyana Rum SVL (Roots, Diamond 2003) draws you in with notes of caramel, dried fruits, and coffee layered alongside light spice and hints of herbs. Reviewers repeatedly highlight its classic "typisch SV/SVL" profile (@Basti) and a "süffig, rund, relativ süß, kräuterig" character (@Gunnar Böhme), while the nose leans towards malty sweetness and fruit. Though praised for being round and oily, several RumX members found it a bit restrained, with some wishing for a bolder presence. The finish divides opinion—some call it long and warming, others "leider auch etwas kurz" (@Basti)—but there’s general agreement on its approachable, easy-drinking nature when given time in the glass.

"Good Savalle nose rich in dried fruit, dark fruitiness, sweetness, malt, spice and a little coffee. On the palate, the flavors are similar but a little weak on the chest: the dilution on one side makes it nice and soft, but also a little thin."
"A positive surprise! Smooth, round, relatively sweet, herbal. A clear recommendation if you have the necessary change and can still find this rare rum."
"9,1:On the nose, surprising first impression with strong fruits like red fruits, berries, dried apricots, figs and charred, spicy wood with caramel, coffee, malt and nuts, very round.Quickly tropical fruits join the game... On aeration, the wood is smoky with nougat and bacon, the molasses brings out tea and tobacco, as the new fruit notes are dried dates, citrus, some raspberry. 9,1:On the palate, the attack is tasty with variety of fruits like dried dates, raisins, apricots, prunes and red fruits, berries. We think of a fruity, delicious marmelade, as the wood is charred with sweet notes of caramel, nougat, burnt sugar, roasted nuts and spicy, especially with clove. The molasses comes with tea and herbal touch, darker, as overripe, fermented tropical fruits like banana are in the second wave of notes, so are coffee and dark chocolate.Very round, continuous rum. 8,9:The finish is long, creamy with charred wood notes, dry, spicy, earthy, as the fruits are dried.."
"#5166 22.03.2025 Tasting at Whisky Watcher Odense. Nose Fresh, medium intense, fruity, berries, light dried fruit, faint smoke, faint earthy, faint caramel. Palate Oily, wood, light roasted, dried fruit, light coffee, banana, light caramel, faint nougat, light spicy. Finish Long and warm, oily, wood, faint smoke, fruits, light tea, light nougat, faint herbal. Very nice rum that needs time to open up properly."
