How does this rum taste?
- Very tasty caramel and butterscotch
- For me the best
- Good as an entry
Don Papa 7 Year is all about overt sweetness, vanilla, and orange—those are the core impressions RumX tasters repeat. Caramel sits in third, while many flag an unmistakably "artificial" (heavily discussed by @epicsune 🇸🇪 and @HenryL) or "chemical" profile, sometimes likened to dessert liqueurs or pastry flavoring. Some embrace the candy-shop feel—"very tasty caramel and butterscotch" (@DangerSnert)—but for others, the sweetness is overwhelming, with "too much vanilla" (@Jindrich Strobl) dominating the experience. Entry-level appeal is often noted, but seasoned drinkers question its rum credentials.

To Bleeding Heart Rum Company
"After a long time, once again took a wrong turn. The Don Papa is like an artificial medicine enriched with vanilla, caramel and orange flavors. While the nose is already irritating (high-proof Fanta), then comes the blackout in the mouth. Totally artificially medicinal, like a medicine you had to take as a child, but tasted awful, very sour. The three flavors pull themselves one-dimensionally from front to back. A rum this is not (more)."
"I don't tolerate it. I never liked it, even when I got into early rums with Diplomatico, Kraken and Pampero."
"yeah, this is bad. I don't understand how anyone can like this, rum-newbie or not. the tastes is just so artificial and strong, you just want to rinse your mouth of it. not enjoyable with coke either, wich almost every other rum is."
"flavors of vanilla, honey and candied fruit - like a liqueur"
